COVID-19 pandemic is creating a tremendous strain on Kenya’s health system. Therefore, the Ministry of Health has called upon scientists, experts, policy makers and innovators to develop systems to aid in the mitigation of this new global health pandemic, COVID-19. In response to the request, our team of developers has come up with a mobile-based application dubbed mUzima for COVID-19. The app has been enhanced from the existing mUzima for Health Providers application a mobile extension of the widely deployed OpenMRS electronic medical record system.

The mUzima for COVID-19 App has been designed around the needs expressed by the health workers to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic which its infection remains relatively high. mUzima for COVID-19 App aims to strengthen health systems capabilities to prompt screening, contact tracing, testing, and treatment.

This App is the first version and works effectively on Android version 5.0 to 9.0.  The App incorporates a digital package that includes data collection forms which are essential for health workers for individual registration, case registration, recording exposure, screening, contact tracing, testing, and recording laboratory results of patients.

Contact tracing form within the App uses a geo-mapping tool to enable contact tracers to use the map features to locate contact with much ease.

The app also allows health workers to view COVID-19 patients’ historical data availed from its Electronic Health record system database.

Considering the patients’ data privacy, the App allows the collected patients’ information to be relied on to the OpenMRS database and would be accessible only to health professionals.

The mUzima for COVID-19 App is available for download on google.playstore. For more information about the App, reach us through our various platforms below;
